How Cleaning Became One of My Spiritual Practices
And why it’s not just about a tidy house
This might be a random post — but honestly, the more my life blends with spirituality, the more I realize how foundational certain things really are.
Cleanliness.
Movement.
Healthy eating.
Financial responsibility.
Being honest.
Being kind.
Being in nature.
Traveling.
These aren’t just life tips — they’re spiritual practices.
I know a part of you might feel like true spirituality means letting it all go, disappearing into a cave, and meditating for the rest of your life. But I don’t entirely agree.
To me, all these everyday habits reflect our inner world. When I’m in balance with my life — my money, my food, my routines — I can feel that the outside is finally matching what’s happening inside. And when things feel out of control? That shows me exactly where I need to tend to the roots.
A Vision That Changed the Way I Saw Cleaning
This all really clicked for me after two ceremonies — one during breathwork, and one with ayahuasca.
In both visions, I found myself standing in a wild, beautiful place. A field with a river running through. Naked people all around, but not in a weird way — it felt like family. Like cavemen. Like home.
And when I looked down, I saw myself washing dishes by the stream.
It hit me deeply: there’s something spiritual about cleaning. About caring. About restoring something that was used back to a state of readiness.
Dirty Dishes as a Metaphor for the Soul
Every plate can be cleaned. No matter how stained, stacked, or crusted over it is — it’s possible. And it doesn’t even take that much effort. Just consistency. Just intention.
We’re the same way.
We carry shame.
We carry stories about how “dirty” or “broken” we are.
But what if that’s not the truth?
What if we just need a little cleaning? Some tending?
Some water.
Some stillness.
Some presence.
Cleaning as a Prayer of Gratitude
Over time, this practice became something else entirely.
Now, when I clean, I don’t see it as a chore.
I see it as a prayer of thank you.
Washing the dishes? I’m thanking the food and the tools that fed me.
Cleaning the car? I’m thanking the vehicle that takes me where I need to go.
Folding laundry? I’m thanking the clothes that protect and express me.
Gratitude is a high frequency. And the more I cultivate that frequency — the more clearly I see the truth in the world around me.
If you’ve been feeling ungrounded lately, consider starting with the simple.
Clear a corner of your space.
Wash one plate.
Let gratitude come through the action.
And if you’d like to reconnect with that sense of peace more intentionally, I invite you to schedule a 15-minute guided meditation with me.
